Cheer up Stevie G: Liverpool are now on Channel Five | Media Monkey
Every cloud has a silver lining, although you might be hard pressed to convince Liverpool fans of that after their team was dumped out of the Uefa Champions’ League last night. The good news, such as it is, is that the Reds will now play in Europe’s second-tier competition, the Europa League, screened for free on… Channel Five! Woo-hoo! “The new Europa League has already proved to be a great success and the prospect of Liverpool, Everton and Fulham joining so many famous teams from around Europe in the gripping business end of the tournament is fantastic for Five and all football fans,” says Five’s head of sport, Robert Charles. It’s even better news for Five’s football presenter Colin Murray, who is a Liverpool fan. Why the long face, Col?

The Carling Cup jamboree continues at the Emirates Stadium tonight, as Arsenal host Liverpool in what promises to be an entertaining encounter. Neither side are likely to be at full strength, but it offers yet another chance to take a look at Arsenal’s youngsters.
For Rafael Benítez’s side, the match represents a gentler platform after Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United. Although not if there’s a repeat of the last time these two sides met in this competition, Arsenal leaving Anfield with a 6-3 victory.
Rob will be here from 7.15pm but until then why not look back on last night’s action, with Manchester United’s fans causing trouble in the win over Barnsley, Stoke’s plane having to perform an emergency landing after the 4-0 defeat at Portsmouth, and Tottenham dumping Everton out of the tournament.
