Football transfer rumours: Micah Richards to Tottenham Hotspur?
Today’s fluff needs a new alarm clock
What would the Mill do without Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool? Even on the bleakest of mornings, when a quick peek seems to suggest the Big Cupboard of Tittle-Tattle is emptier than the space between Ashley Cole’s ears, you can always rely on finding a couple of tins of “Spurs Eye £15m Full-Back” or “Reds Raid [Insert Minor European League Team] For Starlet”.
And today is no different. Tottenham, for example, are “ready to revive their pursuit of Manchester City full-back Micah Richards” according to the Mail. With Harry Redknapp unconvinced by Vedran Corluka, Alan Hutton and on-loan Kyle Walker, he’s ready to splash the best part of £20m on the City man. Heading out of White Hart Lane, though, is Younès Kaboul, who is a target for Paris St-Germain. Spurs are also keen on Napoli’s Christian “Super” Maggio. Expect a “significant” bid in the summer for the midfield utility man.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are “weighing up” a move for FC Copenhagen’s Oscar Wendt. With Paul Konchesky not part of King Kenny’s plans for the future, a left-back is a priority – Wendt joins the wishlist, along with Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre, Sampdoria man Reto Ziegler and Lyon’s £15m-man Michel Bastos. The Reds also remain keen on Hamburg’s Eljero Elia and could make a season-long loan move for Bojan Krkic.
You see? Two paragraphs crammed with tittle-tattle. They’re the rumour gift that keeps on giving. Elsewhere Manchester City are “set to swoop” for Ajax’s Gregory van der Wiel having given up on Barcelona’s Daniel Alves and across the city Manchester United are ready to sign Napoli’s Marek Hamsik and Dortmund’s Neven Subotic in the summer.
Juventus have told Arsenal to strip to the waist and get ready to grapple over the services of Javier Mascherano. The winner of the mano-a-mano tussle gets the right to bid £20m for the Barcelona misfit.
And in the sort of retro rumour that rarely gets a look-in these days, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United are all keen on the Bristol City hotshot and Wine Gum magnate Nicky Maynard.

Football transfer rumours: Lucas Leiva to Juventus?
Today’s fluff has its reasons
The Mill, despite being an online purveyor of tittle-tattle, isn’t a huge fan of modern technology. Or, to be more accurate, modern technology that doesn’t work properly. Which is most of it. Oh for the halcyon days when Ye Olde Roomore Mille would whittle the latest transfer gossip into a small twig, and send a carrier-pigeon to spread the word.
These days the Mill has to throw itself on the mercy of BT, T-Mobile and Hewlett Packard just to gather the latest whispers from the dark reaches of the internet. And today all three conspired to take the morning off. Just as well the Mill kept a couple of those pigeons around. They’ve just been dispatched to the four corners of the globe in order to lay their beaks on a few juicy morsels of gossip.
And here comes one now, wheezing under the weight of this meaty hunk of tittle-tattle, all the way from Amsterdam. Seems it is open season at Ajax. Manchester United are closing in on the 16-year-old winger Gyliano van Velzen, while Arsenal are keeping tabs on the defender Jan Tertonghen.
Come by, come by (no the Mill isn’t sure why this particular ropey old bird thinks it’s a sheepdog). Ah, this one’s been a fair distance too. Everton’s season will be saved by the signing of the 18-year-old Azerbaijan international Araz Abdullayev in January.
Semaphore across the rooftops suggests that Liverpool have been joined by Fulham, Tottenham and Everton in the race to sign the Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfwinkel from FC Utrecht.
Look! Smoke signals on the horizon! And they seem to be coming from the direction of Turin, where Juventus are lining up a £7m bid for Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva and have also joined Milan and Sevilla in the race for Phillipe Mexes.
Dot … Dash … Dot … Dash … Dot … Yes, I think we’re intercepting Roque Santa Cruz’s morse message to DC United.
And the Mill’s source at the other end of the piece of string with tin cans on each end reckons Portsmouth want the Tottenham full-back Kyle Naughton and Sheffield United are hopeful of landing Aston Villa’s Barry Bannan.
