Liverpool prepared to let Joe Cole talk to Tottenham Hotspur

• Kenny Dalglish close to signing Sebastián Coates
• Alberto Aquilani goes to Milan on a season‑long loan

While Liverpool are prepared to let Joe Cole go to Tottenham Hotspur, Kenny Dalglish is looking to bring in two players to Anfield.

The Merseyside club are close to signing Nacional’s 6ft 4in centre-half, Sebastián Coates, who excelled in Uruguay’s Copa América campaign.

A deal to bring Craig Bellamy back to Anfield also looks likely. The move that would take Bellamy back to Liverpool, where he spent a single season, gained momentum when Manchester City indicated they would be prepared to settle the striker’s £90,000-a-week contract to allow him to leave immediately.

Meanwhile, Alberto Aquilani has, as expected, gone to Milan on a season‑long loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

Milan confirm talks over signing Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool

• Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi keen to bring in midfielder
• ‘I like him a lot, he’s an interesting player’

Milan’s owner, Silvio Berlusconi, has confirmed the club are in talks over signing Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool. The midfielder has been linked with a return to Italy all summer having spent last season on loan at Juventus.

Milan are looking to strengthen their midfield after failing to bring Fiorentina’s Riccardo Montolivo to San Siro – and Berlusconi admitted he is a fan of the 27-year-old.

“We are negotiating for Aquilani,” he said. “I like him a lot, he’s an interesting player. I’ve spoken about this with [the chief executive, Adriano] Galliani and [the coach, Massimiliano] Allegri. We will see what happens.”

Aquilani is under contract with Liverpool until June 2014 but is not part of Kenny Dalglish’s long-term plans at Anfield.

Liverpool on brink of signing goalkeeper Alexander Doni from Roma

• Doni’s agent expects deal to be completed soon
• ‘Only concrete offer is from Liverpool,’ agent says

The Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni is expected to complete a move to Liverpool before Friday, according to his agent.

The 31-year-old rejected the initial terms for a move to Anfield but appears to have accepted an improved offer. “We should close the deal by the end of the day [Thursday],” his agent, Ovidio Colucci, told Impero Romanista.

“Of course, anything could happen before the signatures are added to the contracts but I can confirm that there is only Liverpool for Doni.

“The only concrete offer has come from Liverpool and we hope to wrap everything up by this evening.”
